Situated in the heart of Champagne, just a short drive from the traditional capital of Champagne, Epernay, and the historic city of Reims, is the 17th Century Chateau du ru Jacquier.

Believed to have been originally built for a prominent family close to the Bourbon throne in 1601, the chateau still stands largely in its original form with only the addition of it's prominent corner towers about 100 years later. This graceful building has witnessed history unfolding around it for over 400 years, from the assassination of the first Bourbon King Louis IV in 1610, to the flight of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette nearly 200 years later, the chateau has quietly witnessed wars, revolution and turmoil over the centuries, culminating in being on the front line of the First Battle of the Marne during the First World War.

But more significantly, the Chateau du ru Jacquier has watched proudly as the wines produced from grapes harvested in the vineyards in the region around it have become the most prized in the world. When, in the 1690's, the monk Dom Perrignon managed to 'tame' the bubbles in the wines that had been made since Roman times in the area a short ride away, who was to know that Champagne would become the iconic global success that it is today.

And now, you are invited you to come and enjoy some quiet time during your visit to Champagne. You can taste lesser known grower champagnes with the growers themselves at our Gate House tasting centre and then join us in the gardens for a picnic or a bistro style meal on the terrace. The chateau is the perfect base for your cycling holiday in Champagne - stay in the annex and cool of in the pool after your day exploring the surrounding villages. We can also accommodate up to 150 people for your weddings, functions or conferences.
